It is, as Sr. Maureen states, "as relevant now as when he wrote it."
The fact that the Catholic bishops have lost their moral authority and credibility--otherwise why would 98 percent of Catholic women who are or were sexually active use contraception at some time!--makes their current foray into American politics all the more ludicrous. A group of good ol' boys, almost all of whom profess never to have been in a sexual relationship, and many of whom have been complicit in the rape of children, now want to protest Catholic institutions having to pay for women's reproductive health care because some of that health care could include--Oh, no!--birth control. What the Catholic bishops never seem to learn is when it's their duty to speak out and when prudence dictates it best to keep quiet.
"It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt."
--Abraham Lincoln
"Fools rush in where angels fear to tread."
--Alexander Pope
Sad, isn't it!?
Peter Meyers
Jackson MSPeter Meyershttp://none.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-876502085465766394.post-18535868098175005322012-03-16T10:53:31.855-05:002012-03-16T10:53:31.855-05:00Hans Kung's letter to bishops is as relevant n...Hans Kung's letter to bishops is as relevant now as it was when he wrote it, possibly more.

It it sad to see how hardhearted and devisive the bishops are in their heavy-handed legal methods in criminal and civil courtrooms, in their vicious opposition to statute of limitation reform that would hold accountable sexual predators and those who enabled and facilitated such horrific rape and sodomy of children and in their absolute failure in protecting children.

How can they possibly think they have any credibility or moral authority left?

"Judgment day is approaching for Archdiocese's facilitators & enablers" in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia -

http://www.philly.com/philly/opinion/138977774.html

Sister Maureen Paul Turlish, SNDdeN
Advocate for Victims & Legislative Reform
New Castle, Delaware
maturlishmdsnd@yahoo.comAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-876502085465766394.post-73757626156620353622012-03-12T23:55:19.096-05:002012-03-12T23:55:19.096-05:00I was born in 1933 and my Menlo Park California se...I was born in 1933 and my Menlo Park California seminary class ordained in 1959 read voraciously all the preparation papers of Hans Kung as well as others. We understood every nuance of the 'new' liturgy. Seven years later as a Ph.D. student at UCSF I was living in a cheap apartment a mile walk from campus and doing controlled research on the physiologic manifestations of meditation techniques: Zen, Yoga and Catholic.

When the Curia gutted Vatican II seventeen members of the 23 man ordination class 'took a hike' mostly into lower income public service, and 13 married.

It is a mistake to regard celibacy as the dividing issue. The leadership is not following in The Way of Christ but for their own self concern. It is time for those that wish to follow in The Way of Christ to simply practice that way- home worship under the priesthood of Baptism is a start. Small home churches coalescing into larger ones that meet in rented buildings. Let the Bishops find themselves in a faction cut off from the support of those that have faith in Christ's Gospels but lack obedience to authoritarian autocratic rule.rdp46https://www.blogger.com/profile/04427786268228285222noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-876502085465766394.post-78369455757874056452012-03-12T12:07:23.073-05:002012-03-12T12:07:23.073-05:00I can't understand why the Pope and bishops fa...I can't understand why the Pope and bishops fail to consider whether they are laying heavy burdens on the faithful without lifting a hand to help, just as Jesus said about the Pharisees. How can they be so blind? And what abut being a servant to all? Instead they show arrogance and appear power hungry, in direct opposition to what Jesus said.
I will always be Catholic. It is in my genetic make up.but I'm afraid I have little respect for the heirarchy. Instead, I take the goodness of the sacraments and speak out when I can about what I see as blindness in our church leaders.
I tell my children to stay in the church and fight for change but I'm afraid some are going to leave.
I so admire the few courageous bishops who have spoken the truth ( and been crucified for it)I wish there were more like them
I can only trust that God will prevail and bring the church to follow his directives.Eileennoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-876502085465766394.post-37995541333005671622012-03-12T11:05:29.906-05:002012-03-12T11:05:29.906-05:00We are two years into the release of this excellen...We are two years into the release of this excellent article by Dr. Kung...and the Bishops are still silent...protecting their own and protecting their sovereign authority in the church while the "Lay Faithful" continue to leave in droves or who continue to practice their faith despite the compromised leadership in the institutional church. Thank goodness we still believe in the church as the bride of Christ instead of the institutional church run by men who have their own agenda!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-876502085465766394.post-70875974535086691552010-09-02T11:51:50.406-05:002010-09-02T11:51:50.406-05:00Should have stated "one does NOT see . . &quo...Should have stated "one does NOT see . .
