Surely Peter Steinfels’ question is not rhetorical but factual. Of course there is common ground. “Vatican II set in motion certain dynamics, this conservative and liberal split,” Steinfels says, “and it was handled poorly in turn.” That may be, but it heralded the future of Catholicism. That was probably one of its chief and EXTRAORDINARY accomplishments. People seem so concerned that Vatican II has been truncated. Not to worry, because transitions can often be a little, well, -- muddled.<br />We have the ’credentialed’ who are the blog stars: director of X, professor at Y university, or author of Z publication etc. Then we have the masses of ordinary folk who are the comment or post people. But the one in three exodus people and the so-called troubled 20-somethings may be the stars that have not shown their light to the universe YET. Cultural evolution is alive and well. A new faith and morals directive is in the making. And this fact looks back and over the shoulder at Vatican II as it were and says “thanks for the memories.’Marie Schickel Rottschaeferhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11911306828067970778noreply@blogger.com
