The purpose of the Pontiff or as I prefer to call him by his original - true - title, the Bishop of Rome - is to shepherd - provide spiritual guidance with love, compassion - a gentle hand - of acceptance/love of all people - regardless of faith, ethnicity, sexual orientation - in the image of the Good Shepherd. So Francis I is cleansing the Church of the money lenders, the merchants, the thieves who in Christ's days defiled His Father's house. The Church- mystical Body of Christ - has been defiled by the rampant corruption under predecessors who trusted their Curias. Can you imagine what it would be like if a billion more people thought that their personal interpretation is all that would be needed for salvation? How many faiths would there be there then?

Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08332138030182107580noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-876502085465766394.post-56828416709482938722013-07-06T19:29:44.143-05:002013-07-06T19:29:44.143-05:00All this sounds promising, but one still wonders, ...All this sounds promising, but one still wonders, what is the purpose of the Church establishment?

Why do we need Bishops, Cardinals, Popes and this elaborate bureaucracy above the parish level?

Instead of reforming it, why not just get rid of it?Philnoreply@blogger.com
